Yes. Only CERES could tell us with absolute certainty, just as they are the only ones who know what became of our mentors, after they appeared before the blizzard incident. [The frustration is audible in his voice.] But it would fit an established pattern of what has occurred thus far.
[He's silent for a moment as he considers that. The gritty truth.]
Then... I guess that's all the more reason to try to get to the bottom of all of this. Either we have to restore our worlds... or CERES is lying and we have to take them down. We have to make one of those two things happen.
[Then he calms down for a moment and breathes.]
Apollo... Things are probably going to be rough for Trucy.
[There's a delay in replying as Blackquill makes an adjustment to the feed, then he finally responds.]
A word of advice: if you're going to make melodramatic declarations of tearing down our overseers, do it where their eyes and ears aren't eavesdropping on your every word.
[Back on topic, though...] Justice-dono and your daughter are close, I take it?
[Leave it to Blackquill to have an investigation team at the ready.]
Wow, you really have been gettin to work. I appreciate it... and any help you can provide.
...But aside from that, you mentioned our mentors. I'm not sure if it's reached your eagle's ears, but... Mia's here now. She's here and she's alive and she's real.
I can start by showing you how to encrypt messages, when next we meet in person. [Better not to have Phoenix blabbing all their investigative secrets all over the network...]
Mr Blackquill, CERES has been contacted on your behalf to reimburse you for an incident that occurred during our clean. We apologize for the damage and have replaced the broken appliance with what we hope is something suited to your tastes. As a bonus, we have thrown in an extra gift as a thanks from all of us here at CERES for your continued patronage.
[ And when Blackquill goes into his apartment he will encounter one new stove, full size and taking up quite a bit of his kitchen! There is a red bow on top. Next, is a big box, wrapped appropriately and inside the box, Blackquill will find five of these plates and a lovely apron. Enjoy! ]
My thanks for the reimbursement, but the one you should really be apologising to is the young lady who was using the appliance at the time. She could have been seriously injured, and this is not the first time malfunctions have endangered her wellbeing.
Can you guarantee there will be no further incidents with all these absurd glitches?
She was the one who requested this, actually. Would you really spoil her well intentioned gift so? I should hope not.
I cannot guarantee the glitches will stop. They are part of a larger problem that CERES is still working on fixing. I can guarantee that CERES is perfectly willing to reimburse anyone who is harmed during these events. Your safety and well-being is our priority after all.
As we've always said, it's the Flamines. Since the beginning, they've targeted CERES because CERES is one of the few out there in the universe with the ability to stop them. Cerealia is but one of our research colonies and of course, they do not like it. The glitches are a result of their distaste. Really now, have you not been paying attention?
Mr Vincere preferred to keep you residents in the dark. He was of the idea that this was safer for you all. Myself and Ms Recreare both believe differently.
Don't take me for some kind of dullard. I was simply unaware that technological sabotage was amongst the strategies employed by the Flamines, and that you were not referring to some other issue... It seems rather tame for a race with the ability to consume entire worlds.
I believe you and Ms Recreare have the right of it. We cannot guard ourselves against any imminent threats if we are oblivious to them. Knowledge is a vital blade to be used on the battlefield.
Yet how can I not? We say we are under constant threat. We are also constantly afflicted by technological mishaps. There are no actual explosions ever in Cerealia. Put the logic together, Mr Blackquill. One would assume that the technological mishaps are part of the threat, wouldn't they? Especially when CERES is always apologizing and swiftly fixing these mishaps. What did you expect? People in masks and guerrilla warfare? How uncouth.
Exactly. I understand that you and some others brought here have a tendency to get yourselves into trouble but these aren't the front lines. If you are anything, you are refugees, and one does not put refugees to war, do they? I'm terribly sorry for the misunderstanding and we do appreciate the assistance given to the colony as a whole but recovering your data just to send you off into the slaughter... No, that's an unacceptable notion. Maybe I should update Mr Vincere's powerpoint, it seems everyone's under the wrong impression here.
Let me make this clear, since I at least owe you that much. In Cerealia, we research and we protect those who have been been recovered from their worlds. We have security in place to protect the colony from the Flamines but their forces are concentrated elsewhere, destroying other universes much like your own. They knock things down and our job is to put them back up. The job of exterminating them for good? That is someone else's.
